EJELS welcomes replication studies

2026-03-17

Replication studies matter more than ever.

Scientific knowledge is built through repeated examination. Only by studying the behaviour and decisions of different groups under similar conditions can we truly make reliable, generalizable conclusions. When results are consistent across contexts—or when they differ—we gain insights that are essential for informing policymakers and stakeholders.

Yet replication studies remain rare. The pressure to publish novel contributions often discourages researchers from repeating existing designs, even when doing so would strengthen the evidence base.

EJELS is changing that. We are introducing and actively encouraging a new type of submission: replication studies.

We define replication studies as research that applies the same high-quality empirical design previously published, but tests it with a different group of subjects—for example in another country, context, or population.

By supporting replication, we aim to help build more robust, credible, and policy-relevant science.

If you have a study design worth testing in a new context, we want to see it.
