Abstract

The focus of this text is on themes and characteristics of collections and collecting activities. It also serves as an introduction to the research project Collecting, Collectors, Collections, in which individual collecting is explored in relation to cultural, societal and scientific processes. The aims of the text is to present the framework for the four articles in this issue of Kulturella Perspektiv, where each of the articles concentrate on one of four loosely defined types of collectors; the systematic, the passionate, the extreme and the scientific collector.
