Abstract

This paper calls for an expansion of historical archaeology in both chronological and geographical scope. Moreover, it aims at critical scrutiny of the use of prehistoric methods, perspectives, and theories in historical archaeology. The paper argues for a stronger alignment with humanities and cultural history through micro historic perspectives and theoretical perspectives of intersectionality. There is a need for an expansion of historical archaeology of class, gender and intercultural relations of the iron age, medieval, early modern, and modern periods. Concurrently there is a need for stronger historical archaeology to apply triangulation methods in the study of material, written, and visual sources in past time-spaces to write relevant and inclusive historical archaeologies of the whole Scandinavia, but also Europe and the wider global world.
