Abstract

This contribution presents the current distribution of snow leopards across India’s high Himalayan and trans-Himalayan landscapes and summarises the proposed national IUCN Red List range map. It synthesises results from the nationwide population assessment and other published studies to describe current understanding of population status. The chapter outlines key threats, including livestock-related conflict, prey decline, infrastructure expansion, and climate change. It concludes with an overview of ongoing conservation efforts in India.
