Abstract

This article deals with problems like the introduction of iron and iron metallurgy, how to combine metallurgy and archaeology and how to create an understanding for phenomena like metallurgy in our prehistory. Today there is more than a possibility that iron was produced in Sweden during the Late Bronze Age. Both production sites and iron objects, which indicate this, have been found. In the article both analyses of slags and iron are presented, together with early iron objects. Questions about diffusion and the center - periphery model are also discussed.
