This article discusses methodological aspects of the study of glas fragments, as a background to a planned analysis of the entire Helgo assemblage - c. 1600 sherds. It is assumed that a traditional occular description, in a conjunction with laborative exa-mination, will allow "cross identification", resulting in improved possibilities of condicting a local and regional archaeological study. Physical/stilistic identification, is a key concept. The "intentional" design of the glass vessels and their stylistic variability, related to typological and chronological method are discussed. Problems associated with archaeo-logical source criticism and representativity are important starting points.
