Abstract

A pithouse from the Celtic Iron Age in Uppland

The article deals with the find of a recent excavated pithouse from the celtic iron age in Vallentuna parish, county of Uppland. Pithouses before the late roman period, migration period are very rare fenomena in settlements. The find of the pithouse gives new possibilities to discuss different kinds of internal settlement layouts and a growing functional differentiation between different houses ofdifferent shapes. Other housetypes are discussed e.g. the hutshaped houses.
Changes in the internal settlement structure and layout in the discussed settlement- and hillfortkomplex, consisting among other features of the pittrouse, should be seen as an answer to new needs, changes in the whole settlement structure.
