Abstract

My aim in this article is to shed light on Bible translations in various forms of Sami. What they are, how they are made, and what challenges one faces when translating the Biblical text into Sami. The outline of the history of the Sami Bibles shows the complexity of the translation process. This is because of several factors involved in matters of interpretation and the language especially when it comes to fluency and naturalness. Over history, these factors have influenced the translation  processes in several ways. This is partly because of the development in understanding what translation is and what are the most useful ways of translating. Partly the case is about making choices concerning the goals and procedures.
