Abstract

Introduction. This study examines the impact of information literacy self-efficacy on shaping knowledge management processes and user satisfaction with information systems among agricultural knowledge workers in Punjab, Pakistan. Although information literacy and knowledge management have been widely examined, limited research has modelled them as multidimensional higher-order constructs within agricultural research organisations.

Method. Data were collected from 415 agricultural knowledge workers using stratified proportionate sampling: a survey instrument measured information literacy self-efficacy, knowledge management processes, and user satisfaction with information systems.

Analysis. The data were analysed using SmartPLS 4. A disjoint two-stage approach was employed to estimate higher-order measurement and structural models. Reliability and validity of both lower- and higher-order constructs were assessed before hypothesis testing.

Results. The results indicated that information literacy self-efficacy had a significant positive effect on knowledge management processes and user satisfaction with information systems. Knowledge management processes also significantly mediated the relationship between information literacy self-efficacy and user satisfaction.

Conclusion. The findings demonstrate that strengthening agricultural knowledge workers' information literacy self-efficacy enhances knowledge acquisition, sharing and utilisation, which in turn improves satisfaction with organisational information systems. The study extends the application of higher-order modelling in the agricultural research context.
