In the years after the fall of the communist regime in 1989, when Romania opened to the West, the influence of English on the Romanian language rose to an unprecedented level. Nowadays, English words can be found in all Romanian newspapers and journals, can be heard on any Romanian TV channel, and are frequently used as shop or business names (Parlog 2002); English has even become the language of Romanian graffiti.
