Like all other European languages - and a good many others - Swedish has been exposed to the linguistic influence of English for a long time. The first wave of loanwords reached Swedish as early as the 17t h century, bringing a trickle of different loans, such as dogg [dog], tobak [tobacco], puritan and kväkare [Quaker].
