Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • I, the submitting author, warrant that, where applicable, I have the permission of all co-authors to submit this version of the manuscript according to the journal's criteria for authorship and to be their spokesperson during the review process and beyond. I also approve distribution with a CC BY license, and this too has been approved by co-authors.
  • All authors of the manuscript are qualified to be considered as such, in accordance with the guidelines set forth in authorship criteria and have given their permission to be listed in the submitted manuscript.
  • The manuscript has not previously been published in the current submitted version, nor is it under consideration by another journal. If the manuscript has been published in an earlier version, this should be clearly indicated; see the journal's preprint policy. (Feel free to enter an explanation in the box "Comments to the Editor" if relevant.)
  • The submitting author has entered their ORCiD identification number in their author data. Any co-authors have been advised to also provide one in accordance with the journal's policy.
  • All material presented in the manuscript where copyright is held by third parties has been properly produced and necessary permissions have been obtained by the submitting author.
  • The text follows the stylistic and bibliographic requirements specified in the author instructions.
  • The manuscript files uploaded for review are anonymized according to journal policy.
  • All individuals or groups of individuals who can be identified in a study, or their guardians, have signed informed consent documents, thereby giving their consent for the submitted manuscript to be published under a CC license.
  • Where applicable, the research has been reviewed by an appropriate ethics committee and the name of the committee and approval reference number included in the submitted manuscript.

Author Guidelines

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

The Stockholm Intellectual Property Law Review (SIPLR) currently accepts submissions of articles, book reviews and case notes. Only articles are subject to peer review. Book reviews and Case notes are not peer reviewed.

Submissions are accepted throughout the year and no submission or publication fees are charged.

Texts submitted should be (American or British) but might exceptionally be accepted in other languages. The author has to submit together with the text an abstract, five keywords, a short bio and a photo.

SIPLR ask contributors to adhere to the following guidelines:

BEFORE SUBMITTING

Jurisdiction

SIPLR does not have restrictions towards jurisdiction, though it strongly encourages authors to adopt an international/European perspective on submissions. In case an author’s submission tackles other jurisdictions, it is advisable to shortly introduce the legal scenario in consideration of other readers.

Length

We welcome and will happily consider shorter submissions. Slightly longer submission will be considered on a case-to-case basis.

Book reviews and case notes are shorter texts with a minimum of 700 words.

Citations

SIPLR requests all authors when referencing EU case law to use the ECLI citation system. SIPLR also requests that authors use footnotes (as opposed to endnotes) and use the OSCOLA referencing style. Links to OSCOLA reference documents can be found below:

COPYRIGHT

All of our content is published under the terms of Creative Commons Licenses which ensures that copyright remains with authors and also requires full attribution to accompany all reuse and dissemination.  We have chosen the license model of CC-BY as this is the best aligned to the principles of open access as defined by the Budapest Open Access Initiative, and recommended by the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA). The CC-BY license allows readers to copy, redistribute, remix and build upon the publications, as long as clear attribution to the original source and author(s) are given.

Authors contributing to SIPLR retain copyright of their work, with first publication rights granted to SIPLR. Read the journal's full Copyright- and Licensing Policy.

Originality of the manuscript

Exclusivity

Although SIPLR does not require exclusivity of publication for the duration of the copyright of the submission, SIPLR requires that the first publication of the submission must be in SIPLR; thus, the submission must not be under review by any other publication, regardless of its nature.

Co-authorship

In cases of submissions with more than one author, it is mandatory that all authors consent to submitting the manuscript for publication. SIPLR will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation.

Permissions

Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and online format and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors. The authors will be held responsible for any claims for compensation or take down of content unduly submitted.

THE REVIEW PROCESS

Internal Review

SIPLR carefully considers all the manuscripts it receives. Every submission will be reviewed by at least two reviewers. In some cases several editors may be involved in the review process.

Although SIPLR will take into consideration requests for expedited review, this does not mean it will omit any stages of the review process.

Authors may submit texts to SIPLR throughout the year. SIPLR will not reject an article because of lack of space, but SIPLR will propose its inclusion in the next volume. The review process is not as active from the end of June to the end of August as it is during the rest of the year.

SIPLR notifies authors of our decisions by email. SIPLR normally does not inform authors of the status of their manuscripts other than through email. As a matter of policy, SIPLR do not discuss the reasons for its publication decisions.

Anonymity

To facilitate SIPLR's anonymous review process, please confine the author’s name, affiliation, and biographical information to a separate cover page and remove the author information from the Word file for the manuscript. Please include the text’s title on the first page.

HOW TO SUBMIT

Submission process

SIPLR only accepts electronic submissions. Please submit contributions, preferably in Microsoft Word format, through the journal’s electronic submissions system (login or register at the top of this page).
