Propose a Special Issue

CiA Special Issues – General Guidelines

CiA includes special issues dedicated to particular themes or topics to promote focused scholarly discussion and new lines of research on important issues and questions focusing on childhood and sustainability, including education and learning for sustainability in the preschool and early school years.

CiA aims to have one Special Issue (SI) per year. This can include open special issues, involving an open Call for Papers, and/or open Call for Guest Editors, on a particular issue; invited special issues, where (a) contributors and/or Guest Editors are invited by the Editorial Team; or (b) Guest Editors include invited researchers as part of their SI proposal. Special Issues in CiA include five to seven papers and an editorial focused on an aspect of early childhood sustainability studies.

We particularly welcome:

  • the development of theoretical foundations of the theme and related topics;
  • the development of new research methodology;
  • an up-to-date overview of current knowledge and developments in the field, including an evaluation of relevant empirical studies;
  • a presentation of new developments, applications or policy implications.

To submit a SI proposal, please download and complete the CiA Special Issue Proposal Form. Submission details are included in the form. To be considered for publication in CiA, the SI must fit within CiA’s scope.

Special issue articles are handled as regular papers through a double-blind peer-review process.
