Abstract

This is a story about 3 meetings with extraordinary individuals who in my Public Health profession unexpectedly and permanently changed my vision on normal and abnormal (Olikoye Ransome-Kuti), on the role of curative and preventive medicine as determinants of population health (Thomas McKeown), and on the need of broadening the vision on health from pathogenesis to also include salutogenesis (Aaron Antonovsky).
These episodes called Vision- changers happened long ago and would not be the same nowadays. But the principle remains the same: a Change of vision, caused by e.g. meeting a person, reading a book, listening to a lecturer, may give new explanations or question the currently accepted causes of health and disease. Sometimes they make an immediate and very strong impression which may last for life.
