Abstract

The aim of Heath Promoting Health services is to develop its services to better meet health needs in the population. Being a specialist in social medicine with long experiences from HPH it is interesting to note that this concept is grounded in a perspective of social medicine. In both cases itis important to understand the interconnectedness between people’s health and the society in which they live, to see the importance of life conditions, health behaviours and psychosocial factors for the development of health and disease.
HPH works by developing skills and competences in health promotion and disease prevention, to optimise health gain for patients, coworkers and in the population served. By a health orientation and a culture focusing on health outcomes, HPH aims to create a more effective health care and a more sustainable society. In this work specialists in social medicine are important actors.
