Editors-in-chief of Educare

Since its launch in 2005, Educare has been shaped by a succession of editors-in-chief whose work has guided the journal’s scholarly profile, multilingual character and commitment to open access publishing. Their collective efforts have helped transform Educare from a locally anchored initiative into a recognised national and Nordic platform for research on education, teaching and learning.

Editors-in-chief and periods of service

  • Björn Sundmark – editor-in-chief, 2005 - 2010
    • Founding editor‑in‑chief
  • Lotta Bergman – editor-in-chief, 2011 - 2015
    • Oversaw further internationalisation of the journal (e.g. English abstracts, inclusion in the Norwegian List)
  • Jonas Qvarsibol – editor-in-chief 2015 - 2018
  • Anna Wärnsby – editor-in-chief, 2018 - 2022
    • Oversaw the transition from a print journal with approximately 800 annual readers to a fully digital journal with over 30,000 readers after 2018
  • Anette Svensson – editor-in-chief, 2023 - early 2025
    • Completed the DOAJ registration and consolidated Educare’s fully cost‑free open‑access model, as well as overseeing the move to Malmö University Press in 2023.
  • Shaun Nolan – editor-in-chief, 2025 - present
    • Oversaw the migration of new issues to the Sweden’s Royal National Library’s Publicera platform in 2025.
