Omslag Fornvännen 2026:2

Fornvännen 121:2 presents the unusual find of a leather shoe from Early Roman Iron Age in Sweden, as well as several other interesting finds from a previously excavated cairn having been re-examined. A new interpretation of the runic inscriptions on the Sparlösa stone show parallels to the Rök stone. Researchers have used ground-penetrating radar to reveal previously unknown burial mounds at the Viking Age site Birka. A closer study of over 100 Viking Age silver coins found around Sigtuna reveals some of them were used for silver craft in the town. In the short reports it is shown that the Neolithic hunter-gatherers of Gotland suffered from foot troubles, partly due to genetics. And a small Medieval pilgrim badge of the Virgin Mary found in Finland shows the areas connection to Livonia in the Baltic at that time. Reviews of ”Händelser ur Sveriges ohistoria”, ”Reconsidering Raseborg”, and ”Documenting Activism, Creating Change: Archaeology and the Legacy of #MeToo”.
