The issue focuses on bildung within higher education (i.e. education in the broad, formative sense).
In times of accelerating societal transformation and rapid technological development, universities and higher education institutions must both serve as guarantors of high quality and stability, and remain open to exploring new forms of teaching and new ways of supporting learning processes. For these reasons, we are seeking contributions that examines how higher education institutions, teachers, and students are affected by these societal challenges, and how teaching can be developed to remain relevant now and in the future.
Higher education is currently being shaped by changes in several areas: global instability and threats to democracy, shifting demands in the labor market, and not least the rapid development of generative AI, which challenges our understanding of knowledge and the role of higher education.
To meet these changes, it is more important than ever to provide students with the conditions to develop an academic identity grounded in a critical and scholarly approach. A key prerequisite for achieving this is teaching methods that promote student activity and engagement, and that view students as co-creators of knowledge. An equally important development is to consider both process and product in assessment and examination.
The theme is the same as that of the pedagogical conference Lärarlärdom, which will be held at Malmö University on August 20, 2026.

The editorial board welcomes submissions that offer both critical perspectives and concrete methods, in order to create a deeper understanding of higher education. As usual, we also publish contributions outside the theme. All issues related to higher education pedagogy are of interest!
About the journal
The journal Högskolepedagogisk debatt serves as a forum for scholarly articles, best practice and reflections on issues related to teaching and learning in higher education. The journal welcomes contributions from anyone with an interest in the development of higher education. Each issue has a designated theme, but submissions outside the theme are also welcome. The journal is published by Kristianstad University and Blekinge Institute of Technology.
