En ny idéburen sektor? Varför vill vi ha den och hur kan den förändra den svenska välfärdsstaten?

Abstract

There seems to be broad political support for the idea that Sweden should have more of nonprofit welfare services. This article investigates what the Sweden stand to gain by a larger share of nonprofit welfare, and what the potential is for the nonprofit sector to reform the Swedish welfare state. These issues are addressed by two literature reviews, one about nonprofit welfare services in general and a second about cooperative welfare services. The re-sults show that the nonprofit sector has potential to improve welfare services, but only to the extent that they are allowed to develop their special character. Furthermore, the results show that there are now a chance to create a new nonprofit sector that could change the welfare state, provided there is political will on the part of both government and civil society.
