The purpose of this study was researching cooperation between social service and school regarding children who are maltreated or risk being maltreated. To answer the study’s purpose three main questions were presented, in what way social workers and principals achieve success factors in cooperation, what they believe contributes to effective cooperation and how cooperation is characterized by unequal authority? The study is based upon six semi-structured interviews with three social workers and three principals. The result showed that all the respondents had a common understanding of the success factors and how to reach them. The success factors are for instance, a common goal and purpose, good communication and having knowledge of each other’s professional areas and laws. The study shows that the success factors are what makes the cooperation effective.
