Instructions for Authors

General information

AGATHEOS: European Journal for Philosophy of Religion accepts research articles and book reviews. All research articles must be anonymized for double-blind peer review. Book reviews are reviewed by the editorial team.

By proceeding with a submission, the author confirms that the following criteria are met:

Exclusivity: The manuscript is not currently under review or accepted for publication elsewhere. This ensures the exclusivity of the material for AGATHEOS.

Originality: The submitted work is their own original creation and has not been published previously or is under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Submissions are to be made in Word format and anonymized for blind review. Always include a separate document with the title of your paper along with your title, full name, affiliation, and email address.

To ensure the highest standard of linguistic clarity and expression, we encourage authors whose primary language is not English to have their manuscripts professionally proofread before submission.

If your manuscript is accepted, meticulously adhere to the following guidelines when preparing your final submission:

Style Guidelines for all Manuscripts

Remarks regarding style and grammar:

  • American English or European/British English spelling may be used according to the custom of the author, except in quoted material, which should not be altered.
  • Use one space after a period and a colon.
  • Periods and commas precede closing quotation marks. Colons and semicolons follow closing quotation marks. Question marks and exclamation points follow closing quotation marks unless they belong within the quoted matter.
  • Double quotation marks should be used throughout. Quotations within quotations should have single quotation marks.
  • En-dash is used between numbers.
  • En dashes (–) with spaces on either side can be used to delineate
    parenthetical statements.
  • In general, in non-technical contexts, spell out numbers zero through nine. All numbers beginning a sentence are spelled out.
  • The possessive of a singular noun is formed by adding “’s” on the end, even for nouns or pronouns ending in s (e.g., “Lewis’s”), except in special cases.
