This is the fourth issue of Volume 2 of AGATHEOS – European Journal for Philosophy of Religion. This special issue marks a significant transition within the philosophy of religion. Yujin Nagasawa assumed the Kingfisher Chair in Philosophy of Religion and Ethics at the University of Oklahoma in January 2024, succeeding Linda Zagzebski after more than twenty years in the position.
This is the third issue of Volume 2 of AGATHEOS – European Journal for Philosophy of Religion. This special symposium issue is devoted to a symposium on Amir Saemi’s Morality and Revelation in Islamic Thought and Beyond: A New Problem of Evil. The contributions examine Saemi’s formulation of a new problem of evil arising from tensions between divine revelation, moral intuition, and scriptural authority, a problem developed within Islamic philosophical theology but with wider relevance for philosophy of religion. The issue includes critical discussions by several philosophers together with Saemi’s replies, illustrating how engagement with Islamic thought can enrich contemporary analytic philosophy of religion and contribute to a globally informed discipline.

The papers in this special issue consider how we might evaluate a God concept in the light of its bearing on our understanding of the nature of the well-lived, or “spiritual,” life, or in terms of its capacity to enable, in practical terms, the enactment of a given ideal of the spiritual life.

This is the inaugural issue of AGATHEOS – European Journal for Philosophy of Religion. This first issue embodies, in many ways, the broad aims and aspirations of the journal as a whole and features articles connected by the theme "Religious Diversity and the Future of Philosophy of Religion." We hope that the first papers of Agatheos will provoke further analysis of these and other important issues and advance and enrich a vibrant scholarly dialogue. We invite readers to engage deeply with these contributions and join us in exploring both traditional and novel topics in the ever-evolving landscape of the philosophy of religion.
