Abstract

This article concerns the transformation and re-use of archaeological sites during the pre-Roman Iron Age in the southern part of Värmlandsnäs in the county of Värmland, Sweden. Sites such as rock-carving- and burial sites in this limited geographical area have been re-used and transformed for other functions than their original purpose and within a limited timeframe of a few hundred years. The article discusses potential causes for this action from a socio-economical perspective and how these may have played a role in the restructuring of the landscape during times of change, where older sites were used to validate power structures.
