This article deals with the use of pithouses and their role in the process of beer brewing and consumption in the early Middle Age society of Halland, West Sweden. At different levels these houses, represented by four houses in the area of Blackeberg in the vicinity of Vinberg, can give us information about the status of several phenomena in this early Middle Age society. The argument is based upon archaeo-botanical data supported by old written sources.
