”Neolithisation in the western part of Värmland. Settlements, subsistence and landscape”: The aim is to analyze the Neolithisation process in a marginal area of the Swedish Neolithic. The study area belongs to the Lake District of western Värmland. By combining archaeological data with pollen analysis in a landscape perspective I try to reveal the spatial organization of the Stone
Age society. The result so far indicates a shift in subsistence from the Middle Neolithic onwards. The spatial organization of settlements near the Lake Stora Le seems to continue undisturbed by the transition from the Mesolithic to the Neolithic. The only visible changes are new Neolithic symbols such as gallery graves, decorated pottery and rock art, but in similar places in the landscape as during the Mesolithic. The spatial organization does not change radically until the beginning of the Late Bronze Age, when a major shift in the importance of cultivation takes place.
