Abstract

The late mesolithic Lihult culture is well represented on the west coast of Sweden. It is generally considered as a typically coastal culture. In which way and to what extent the inland also was used, is less well known. An analysis of an extensive surface collected material from the area around lake Mjörn in Västergötland, shows that this inland area has been intensively used and occupied during the end of the mesolithic era. Through an analysis of the sites and the finds, the settlement structure of the late mesolithic in this inland area, and in general, is discussed in this article.
