Abstract

”The hand that made the carving”: A number of rock art images from Askum parish in Bohuslän are analyzed. The purpose is to test
if it is possible to detect individual rock carvers as creators of specific motives. If this is possible, it is also possible to see how these individuals moved around in the landscape. It is then also possible to discuss the role and status of the rock carver in Bronze Age society. The results of the analysis show that carving technique can attribute figures on different rock carvings to individual rock
carvers, at least in some cases.
