This article examines the legal framework surrounding police searches of premises, focusing on safety and legal constraints. Using a scenario where a suspect is in an apartment, it explores how police can secure retreat routes and minimize risk areas without exceeding legal boundaries. The study applies a legal dogmatic method and integrates police conflict management (POLKON) to highlight practical and legal dilemmas. Findings suggest that certain safety measures may be permissible if they are not too intrusive and are aimed at executing the search or arrest. The article advocates for clearer legislation to enhance legal certainty and improve working conditions during police interventions.
