Despite strong evidence for the societal value of prevention, Sweden remains primarily organized to manage ill health once it has already occurred. To meet future public health challenges, a systemic shift is needed in which health promotion and preventive action become integral to societal planning. In this article, we reflect on the work of “Ett Friskare Sverige,” a pilot study aimed at facilitating the emergence of a new national organization for coordinated prevention. Drawing on our experiences, we discuss what academia can contribute in translating evidence into action, and how collaboration can serve as a lever for change.
