Abstract

Patience and commitment have been two guiding principles for the project “Väck sömnen till liv” (Awakening Sleep) since its inception. When the work to change both attitudes toward and routines surrounding patients’ sleep during hospital care began, the goal was clear: to place patients’ sleep on the agenda as a central component of nursing care. In 2020, six registered nurses at Karolinska University Hospital and Karolinska Institutet took the initiative to form the Sleep Core Group. The project is now being summarized, with lessons learned and practical advice for others who wish to develop sleep-promoting nursing care in clinical practice.
