This article examines 34 studies on the interphonological knowledge of adult learners of European Portuguese as a non-native language (PNNL). The selected studies provide empirical data on oral production and/or perception in the segmental domain, indicate the number and profile of the subjects participating in the study, and explicitly describe the data collection procedures. The analysis focuses on the methodologies used, identifying the groups of learners studied (according to their L1 and proficiency level), the phonological structures under analysis and the procedures for collecting production and/or perception data. Furthermore, this study identifies the descriptive gaps that need to be addressed in future research to enhance the understanding of interphonological development among PNNL learners and to explore the potential utilization of such data for pedagogical purposes.
