Abstract

Here we show that university researchers, public inventors and market participants in cooperation can play a significant role to initiate innovation and sustainable development where markets fail. Our experimental findings can explain both negative externalities and the slow development of good sustainable products, but also how the market participants themselves and the society can go around the problem to improve the average sustainable product-quality in a market.
