The major aims of the article are to given empirically grounded overview of, as well as a theoretical discussion of the causes for the musical stylistical changes thas has taken part since the early 1970s. It is clear that the prerequisites for this development were quite different depending on different socio-political situations that the Sami have encountered in the three Scandinavian countries, Finland, Norway, and Sweden.
