One of the royal musicians during the reigns of Gustaf III and his son Gustaf IV Adolf was Paul Chiewitz. During the years 1797-1800 he wrote some letters to one of his sons, Johan Henrik Chievitz in Denmark, about his present family life. Frankly and emotionally he describes his two latest wives, his three children born in his first marriage and his five sons born in his second. The scandal connected to his third marriage gives the story of his life a thrilling touch. This article reproduces those letters with complementary information.
