Comparisons of several archival sources resulted in a better understanding of the operational years of many Swedish clay tobacco pipe factories. This article accounts for the results of archival studies combined with deductive analyses of decorations and markings on clay tobacco pipes manufactured at the clay pipe factory in Alingsås. Findings in archives suggests that clay tobacco pipes manufactured at the factory can be dated between 1738 and 1826, while pipes with royal ciphers, with a high degree of certainty, can be dated to the reigns of the kings they represent. However, further research may result in more precise production date-spans for other pipes made at the factory.
