The article offers a reinterpretation of the Greek concept sarx in the Letter to the Galatians, proposing that it should be understood as collectively rather than individually oriented. In contrast to traditional interpretations that associate sarx with individual desires, the author argues that Paul’s critique is instead directed toward collective pressures for conformity. Through historical-critical and linguistic analysis, the internal coherence of Galatians becomes more apparent, particularly in relation to questions of community, diversity, and identity markers. The study demonstrates that Paul positions himself in opposition to demands for male circumcision and social adaptation, emphasizing instead grace and the renewal of creation as the foundation for fellowship. The article further relates these insights to the Lausanne Covenant’s emphasis on human dignity and the church’s cultural independence. Overall, a collective-oriented reading of sarx in Galatians yields a more coherent and theologically significant message for addressing issues of freedom, inclusion, and community within the Christ-faithful movement.
