The Lausanne Covenant’s View of Scripture in Practice

This lecture analyzes the Lausanne Covenant’s view of Scripture—particularly the statement that the Bible is “without error in all that it affirms”—in relation to evangelical theology and biblical interpretation. Focusing on the movement’s historical distancing from both fundamentalism and liberal theology, it examines how this view of Scripture is expressed in practice, especially through interpretation in historical, literary, and canonical contexts. The lecture also engages with the Seoul Statement (2024) and demonstrates how views of Scripture, interpretive traditions, and hermeneutics interact in current ethical debates. The lecture argues for a biblically faithful yet reflective stance within the framework of the evangelical tradition.
