Post Mortem: autoetnografi om translivets levbarhet, våld och de dödas gränslösa foglighet

Abstract

This article is an autoethnography in which I reflect on my own and my late daughter’s experiences of intersecting forms of violence, trans medicine, and the conditions that make life either livable or unlivable. I begin by outlining my methodological approach in relation to the research literature on autoethnography, and I examine ethical issues concerning positionality, power, and the dilemmas involved in writing about a life that has passed. Through narrating our experiences, I explore themes of trust and violence directed at the trans body and sexuality. I approach violence from an intersectional perspective and position myself within a continuum of violence—ranging from overt physical violence, violent pathologization, and exclusion targeting trans people, to more subtle, unconscious, and non-intentional forms of transmisogynistic normativity.
