This article discusses the transformation and urban development of the former Ulleråker psychiatric hospital. The purpose of this article is to investigate the role of cultural heritage during urban development with a focus on how former patients at the institution are remembered and made into grievable subjects. Using the graveyard as a point of departure, and drawing on examples from other places, media and popular culture, the paper explores how cultural heritage is related to former patients of the institution. The texts seeks to deconstruct how these patients are remembered at Ulleråker and the way that they are made, or not made, into subjects possible to grieve. The article also seeks to offer other ways of approaching the cultural heritage of former psychiatric hospitals.
