The underlying basis for the analysis is a theory by Camilla Mordhorst and Kitte Wagner Nielsen. They argue that the form of an exhibition will always be the carrier of a certain content, which is historically determined. The form of an exhibition is not necessarily identical to the content, which the exhibition seeks to express. Therefore it is possible for the form and content of an exhibition to be in conflict. With this in mind an account of the modern and the post-modern form of exhibition is given. The analysis of the travelling exhibition Kaos von Linné takes it points of departure in the account of the two forms of exhibition. The analysis demonstrates both how the modern and the post-modern form of exhibition can influence present exhibitions. In this ways the analysis shows how the interplay between the form and the content of the exhibition have an impact on the total expression of the exhibition.
