Genus, sexualitet och transmigration

Abstract

This article is based on fieldwork carried out among men with a transmigrant background who work in a market in Stockholm, where they meet different kinds of people. One of the men in the market, called Mehmed, supports his family in Turkey by working eight months of the year in Sweden. I have interviewed Mehmed to get his view of his encounters with different people. The example in the article focuses on male strategies when a woman passes the market. The purpose of this study is to investigate how concepts such as gender, sexuality and transmigration are used and become relevant in these encounters.
