Is feminist research ethics a concern for ethnologists? Is the neglect of a gender perspective a question of research ethics? These are the main questions addressed in this article. The author takes her point of departure in two papers presented at the ethnology and folklore conference in Ystad 1991 dealing with sex letters and pornography. She criticizes the methods applied, since they cover structures of power and gender. A study on men's violence to women is finally used as an example of how a reflexive gendered research practice and how violence can be represented in text, "the construction of knowledge".
