Abstract

This study is part of a project focusing on the study of forms of "moral discourse" in contemporary Scandinavian society. In this paper I will discuss the complex interplay of the different meanings of black and white, the colours of work, class, ethnicity and morality, by means of analyzing excerpts from a radio talk show devoted to these issues. We will look further at the role of the different interactors and specifically at the role of the producers in administrating talk, morality and moral dilemmas in discursive space. The point of departure is a limited set of data. It is relevant to ask the following questions: How is the topic of "black maids" discussed in public media in Sweden? How does the problem become a "moral" problem in the first place? In what way is the audience invited to participate in the media debate and what are the conditions for their participation in discursive space?
