Abstract

To many women the soap-opera constitutes an important part of the material used in their identity work. The concentration of the soap-opera on the private sphere and relationships make it highly appreciated amongst the experts on the labour of relations, the women. The author has followed several women's soap-opera watching for a considerable time. In conversations with these women, certain topics have crystallized, themes which deal with women's living conditions and visions today. The author advocates a research perspective where an ideology-critical attitude toward the offering of TV series is combined with a sympathetic reading of the soap-opera.
