Abstract

This article focuses on how smartness relates to transformation and to the defining and solving of problems, by analysing how smartness is practiced and spread in and through practical tips for problematic situations in everyday life. Central to such smart tips is the art of by simple means and creative courses of action turning adversity into success. How the situation is understood is intertwined with what can be brought forth as a simple means to solve it. Two different courses of action are identified: one that starts from a transformative and moral solution that can be applied to many problems, and another that starts with a problem that seeks solutions in contexts where it can cause or contribute to transformation.
