How can cultural activities complement ordinary health care when it comes to improving human health? Follow-up research on “Rehabilitation with culture” in Stockholm emphasizes the importance of cultural activities being able to supplement, but not replace, medical care and rehabilitation. It is fundamental that different knowledge paradigms - studies of measurable effects as well as qualitative studies of the immeasurable - are given equal space to be applied. In this qualitative study, the meeting of two different perspectives is discussed. One is performance oriented and involves paying attention to people’s performances. The second perspective concerns what we mean by health. In this study, a concept of health is used that considers the ability and well-being to be the most useful in this context. The article presents a performance-oriented model, which can be applied to make visible how people can mobilize and take advantage of their own resources.
