This article discusses the personal experience of the discrepancy between the rhetoric and the practice in a participatory action research-study. The project is a collaboration together with disabled women in Nicaragua. During a project-planning trip I suddenly realized that my thoughts about the how to carry out the collaboration work not at all corresponded with the urgent need of basic assets that the women expressed. This insight became an important alarm block to me of the need to deepen the reflections about the asymmetrical power relations between researcher and target group and also to, once again, consider what the concept of participation stands for.
