Abstract

The article analyses the discourse of the past folk dance and those gender-related changes I have come across during my field study at dance lessons in schools and youth recreation centres.

Still, dance lessons belong to the subject Athletics, and have the courteous goal of a higher status-dance where they want to disciplinate the body and where the man is the leader. Due to changes in the context of the room and new forms of dance where the body's self-projection plays an important role for young girls' possibility to appear more independent on the official dancefloor.
