Abstract

The children's programme Björnes Magasin is known to several generations of children. The questions posed in the article concern how this TV-programme has succeeded in becoming so popular amongst children, how they use it, and what it may mean to their development. Is Björne a transition object similar to other cuddly toys and security blankets, as well as fosterer and compensation for other human intimacy? The article tries to work out how Björne is constituted and how he most likely is perceived by a TV-watching audience.
