Editorial Policies

Peer review policy

All submitted manuscripts are first assessed by an editor, who determines whether the manuscript is suitable to be sent out for peer review. Submissions deemed suitable are sent to two or more reviewers, who are tasked with identifying the manuscript’s general and specific strengths and weaknesses. If appropriate external reviewers cannot be secured, suitable members of the journal’s editorial board are assigned to carry out the review.

The journal uses a double-blind review process, meaning that authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout. The standard review period is six to eight weeks, from submission to the communication of the review outcome to the author, but this may vary depending on the availability of suitable reviewers and other circumstances. Reviewers are encouraged to provide constructive (formative) feedback, even when a manuscript is not considered suitable for publication.

Based on the reviewers’ reports, the editor compiles a recommendation regarding acceptance or rejection. Overall responsibility for publication rests with the editor-in-chief, who, with the support of an international editorial board composed of subject experts, makes the final decision. In cases where an author is in any way affiliated with the journal, they are recused from all tasks related to the manuscript in question, and another editor is assigned to manage the review process. The author’s affiliation with the journal will also be disclosed in the final publication.

The journal welcomes submissions that have previously been posted on preprint servers, personal websites, presented at conferences, or otherwise circulated through informal channels. However, the author must hold the copyright to the text. Authors are encouraged, where applicable, to include links to previous versions in the final published version of the article.

Open access

All material from Volume 51, issue 2021:1–2 onward is published in open access under a Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 license. Authors retain copyright to their articles, but the material may be reused in accordance with the terms of the license. Earlier material was published with the authors’ permission, and copyright remains with the authors. To reuse material from articles published before Volume 51, issue 2021:1–2, permission must therefore be obtained from the respective authors. The journal’s open access policy is registered in Open Policy Finder.

Preprint policy

The journal allows authors to upload earlier versions of their texts to appropriate preprint servers, provided that the author accepts the following conditions:

  • The author retains copyright for the preprint and any works derived from it and is permitted to submit the text to the journal.
  • The author acknowledges that the prior availability of earlier versions means that the journal cannot guarantee full anonymity in the review process, even if the submitted files are anonymized (see review policy).
  • If the text is published in the journal, the author is expected to update the preprint version to indicate that the final version has been published in the journal, including a DOI link.

The journal’s preprint policy is registered in Sherpa Romeo.

ORCID

Tidskrift för litteraturvetenskap strongly recommends that all authors submitting to the journal register for an account with Open Researcher and Contributor Identifier (ORCID). This registration provides researchers with a unique and persistent digital author identifier, ensuring that publications are correctly attributed and improving the discoverability of an author’s work. It also helps ensure that authors receive proper recognition for their research.

Because an individual’s ORCID remains the same as long as the account exists, changes of name, employment, affiliation, or research field do not affect the discoverability of their previous publications, facilitating communication among researchers.

The journal encourages all authors to include their ORCID alongside their other author information. If the article is accepted, this information will be published with the article.
